Results compared to before diagnosis

I am very happy with the results we are starting to see.

My baby played tug of war last night for the first time in weeks, her spirit is happy she has become more loving and affectionate to me. More than she already was. I think she knows that all I am doing to her is making her feel better.  I live in the country we have 5 acres, I have always walked the property with my babies every night when I get home from work, but for a couple of weeks I had stopped I was afraid that she may get a fly or mosquito on her skin and that would cause more infection. The last week we have been walking again as all of the open sores are closed up. Last night she was in such a playful mood, running and playing teasing Biggan my male Akita. Getting down on the ground with her front legs like a puppy. I know that the supplements are making her feel stronger and healthier.  I could not have done all this without my mother, my parents both live with me. My mother gives Akaya her medication in the morning and prepares her meals for her during the day while I am at work.  My mother is a godsend.

After seeing how bad Akaya looked in our first pictures to the pictures we have today I am truly thankful to the previous Akita companions that recorded their journey with their babies. Their stories gave me hope that is why I am writing my journey down, to let you know it is possible, with love and perseverance we have made Akaya’s condition for life controllable. She is Happy, Healthy with a little less hair, maybe it will come back, I really don’t care, I have already ordered her a coat for the winter months when she goes outside. She loves the snow, my babies are not outside dogs they are my family they are with me in our home and only go out when they want to. She loves me stroking her back and tummy I keep saying to her see baby no more lumps or sores. All smooth.

These are two web sites that have helped me tremendously

Early SA signs of and problems

Many month before Akaya got sick, I kept taking her to the Vet because she was having hair loss on her ears and they were flacking. I was given cream and topical antibiotics. Little did I or the vet know this was the first sign of SA, so be aware  if you Akita shows these signs catch it before a full brake out I wish I would have known this.

A devoted animal advocate and Vegan volunteering at a Dog Rescue. I’m married, also living with Akita Biggan (male) Akita Akaya (girl), parrot Sunny. I’m originally from England but have lived in America for over 34 years. I was heartbroken when Akaya was diagnosed with SA.I thought I was going to lose her until I came across the Akita Unleashed website, and the stories gave me so much hope I just jumped right on it did not waist a day. I got everything that the owners suggested and got to work because, I was told by many that there was no cure the best and most humane thing would be to put her out of her misery. But she's my baby. No that's not in her or my plan for life. I was going to make my baby better just as the stories showed me. This is a life commitment to her from me that she will have a happy healthy life until she becomes an old lady with me. I know there is a possibility of breakouts but I truly believe if I continue to bath her and give her medications, the possibilities are far less. You have to stay on it forever. Never slake... this is part of our life now.
